On working with director Sundar C? I had already worked with him for Giri. I initially composed five songs for Thaka Dhimi Tha. Since Sundar C was pleased with the tunes, he wanted four more. Happy with the songs, he accommodated all in the movie. He has a great musical knowledge and it was nice working with him. We are working together again for his Chinna.
Has the arrival of FM radios hampered the audio sales? No absolutely not. People have started listening to variety of songs only after the FM radio stations have come in. The problem is the audio cassettes and CDs are priced high which makes it difficult for an individual to buy. With the help of technology, if we come out with low cost cassettes and CDs, the sales will go up.
Do you compose tunes for lyrics or vice versa? I love to come up with tunes for lyrics. Songs of yesteryear movies still stay fresh in our heart since they were composed with lyrics on hand first. In Thaka Dhimi Tha, I composed tunes for lyrics penned by lyricists long before. On your venture to Bollywood? My debut film was Kis Kis Kismat released last year. My songs were appreciated. Now I have been asked to compose music for a movie starring Ajay Devgan. Be it Kollywood or Bollywood, my energy level and dedication will always be the same. No music-director is purposely bringing singers from Mumbai to stall the talent here. It is just one of those things. |
