Elated Rohit Awed By Superstar Rajinikanth

    Monday, June 23, 2008
''It has been a dream come true'' says the young lad from Bangalore. Rohit worked with the Tamil superstar ''style king'' Rajanikanth for ''Kuselan''. Rohit got this opportunity from eminent film maker and grand father S.Ramanathan who helped him be part of the ''Kuselan'' team for 65 days. The movie was also shot simultaneously in Telugu with the name ''Kathanayukudu''. Superstar Rajanikanth and Nayantara feature in lead roles.

Indiaglitz caught up with this young chap recently in Bangalore. Here are excerpts from the interview.

How did you feel working with Rajinikanth?

I was truly on cloud nine. I felt I had realized my dream for all the 65 days I worked for 'Kuselan'. Rajinikanth is our nation's pride and is a terrific actor. More importantly, he is a great human being.

How did you get this opportunity?

After finishing my engineering I trained in the acting camp of noted theatre personality Mr. A.S.Murthy Abhinaya Tharanga in Bangalore. My grandfather Ramanathan came to know about my interest in filmmaking and so spoke to director P.Vasu. Then the job of working as apprentice assistant director was offered. I grabbed it with a whole heart.

Did you want to become an actor?

Acting of course is my childhood passion. I have appeared in two shots with Rajini sir in 'Kuselan'. Learning has been in the forefront of my mind. When you get an opportunity to work in the camp of a Rajini sir film there is a lot to learn. I have had this privilege and I am sure this experience has shaped my mind towards the right direction.

Tell us about the knowledge you acquired during the 65 days?

I started off learning a lot from director P.Vasu about basic things related to cinema. I got the much needed confidence probably to an extent of 40 percent. This rich experience can definitely make me a good director. Working for a minimum of 12 hours on a daily basis was great. As an apprentice assistant director in a team that also had nine other members (assistants and associates), the learning possibilities were huge. I could not have asked for anything more. I was lucky to be in a friendly environment.

Were you in contact with Rajinikanth very often?

I saw a simple human being in him. He used to put his hand around my shoulders and inquire about me. He knows Hanumanthnagar and Abhinaya Tharanga in Bangalore very well. He spoke to me in Kannada. Every member of the team thought Rajini sir was very cool. He didn't lose his temper even once. That is the greatness of this wonderful personality. He is a gem of a person.

    Where did you study?

I studied Mechanical Engineering at KSIT Bangalore.

Is it true that you have acted in stage plays and even directed one?

I have been part of 20 to 25 street plays. I was part of Abhinaya Tharanga in Hanumanthnagar Bangalore and is headed by A.S.Murthy. Plays like Swayamvara Loka, Avasthe, Ashwathamma and Atmavalokana were quite interesting. In a span of two days I performed in 35 shows (street plays) in Kanakapura. As a student I wrote and directed 'Atmavalokana'.

    What are your immediate plans?

I am very clear on taking up direction for the next one year. I really don't know what my destiny is. Probably after one year, I might take up acting seriously.
