Ayudham - 'Aayudham' music throws up pleasant surprise
IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, December 18, 2004]

"Aayudham" is top star Prashanth's latest movie and it has enjoyable music too.

Dina, who has composed the music, is not as well known as Harris Jayaraj, Bharadwaj and Vidyasagar. But he has done a good job.

The first track, to describe it mildly, was a pleasant surprise - not merely because it surpassed low expectations. Harini, who belts out this track with élan, has a husky quality to her voice that is entertaining indeed.

The second track, "Naan oru Maathiri", is extremely hummable, to say the least. With a mellow and yet fast-paced refrain, this song is just as good as the first.

"Kootanchoru" is the title of the next track, and as the name probably suggests, it is quintessentially a koothu song. Dina and Anuradha Sriram lend their voices to this song. This track is nice but lacks the class the first two radiate.

"Harmon Surakkuthu" is another track that doesn't fail to impress. It has that peppy feel to it that is reminiscent of A.R. Rahman or Harris Jayaraj. The disturbing question is why words like "bailamo" (a take on Enrique Iglesias' Bailamo?) or a few other lines in Hindi are essential in any song that has pretensions of being hip.

However, it is undeniable that the song makes for good listening. KK and Harini's voices are responsible in no small degree for the song sounding as good as it does.

Even the last track in the movie, "Sarakku Sarakku", should go down well with Chennai's youth, not just because of the connotation of the title of the track. A koothu track, it however does not sound as good as "Kootanchorum" or even come close to songs like "Manmatha Rasa".

If you're out hunting for an album to keep you company on a long bus trip, "Aayudham" is a good bet.
