Thirupachi - Peppy Tunes
IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, December 21, 2004]

Thirupachi has seven numbers in which all but two numbers are peppy and racy bearing the trademark of music-composer Dhina. Heavy instrumentation making the lyrics inaudible (one doubts whether it has become a trend in Kollywood) and a song singing praise of the hero as usual find place in the album. Interestingly, two songs are set to score by two Andhra music directors (Songs and story from Telugu are always a fixation for Vijay).

Dhina seems to have taken off from where he had left in Thiruda Thirudi. Especially the number Appan Panna Thappula sung by Pushpavana Kuppusamy and Anuradha Sriram is nothing but an artless repeat of Manamadha Rasa. It has the same hurried and almost orgiastic rhythm. It is obviously a song to showcase Vijay's unmistakable dancing skills.

Amidst racy numbers finds their way are a romantic rap number, Kannug Kannundhan,  tuned by Mani Sharma and a folk song Kattu Kattu set to tune by Devi Sri Prasad.

Kattu Kattu sung by Manickam Vinayakamn and Sumangali is full of beans with lot of folk beats.

The Kannung  Kannundhan, a rap number with soft music, a welcome change in this otherwise monotonous album has the stamp of Mani Sharma. Sung by Harish  Raghavendra and Uma Ramanan has an attractive ring of lilt around it. Harish's voice provides the right tonal variations.

Kumbida Ponna, a racy number much on the lines of Dhina's tunes in Thiruda Thiruda  has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Malathy. It is a perfect number to appease front-benchers.Malathy and Shankar are uninhibited singers and they do full justice to this dance number.

The album has a song explaining the love and affection between a brother and sister - Avicchu Vacha and interestingly it is also a fast number sung by Manickam Vinayakam. Pushpavanam Kuppuysamy and Anuradha Sreeram sing the last number Appan Pana Thapulae. Their combination is intriguing, as their ranges are totally diverse.

Manickam Vinayakam, Dhina and Pushpavanam Kuppusamy are noted for their loud voice and no doubt songs sung by them too are also loud.
