Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu - A winner, surely
IndiaGlitz  [Thursday, March 16, 2006]

Gowtham Menon and Harris Jeyaraj have combined to score a hat-trick in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. After Minnale and Kaakha Kaakha, the duo has come out with some scintillating tunes and new sounds.

Harris Jeyaraj has proved that he can pretty much lift himself to suit the big name (Kamal). Yet again, Harris has proved his mastery in orchestration.

With a blend of western symphony and classical music, Harris has managed to come up with an acceptable effort.

1. Karka Karka (Devan, Tippu, Nakul, Andrea)

Straightaway, a peppy number. Good use of percussions combined with soft rap, the song is sure to catch the attention of youngsters. Devan's brisk voice and a good support by Andrea makes the song count. The fervor is decidedly youthful. So, girls and boys, go and have a blast.

2. Partha Mudhal (Bombay Jayshree, Unni Menon)

Bombay Jayashree, who stole the hearts of music lovers in Vaseegara, is back with Partha Mudhal. Harris always gets the best of Jayashree. And he sure has. The gentle voice of Unni Menon seamlessly mixes with Jayashree's sharp tone and leaves a great feel for the audience. A classical raaga inspired song, it is accompanied by the good use of veena.

Suffice to say, another Vaseegara is on cards.

3. Manjal Veyil (Hariharan, Vijay, Nakul)

Hariharan , known for his passionate singing, does the job without much fuss here. Supposedly a romantic number, Harris has intelligently fused the western and classical stuff. Mild use of instrument allowing the lyrics to dominate is another highlight of the song. All marks to Harris for coming up with good melody.

4. Uyirilae (Mahalaxmi, Srinivas)

A soft and a soothing number. Harris, thanks to his good orchestration and a gentle use of instruments adds sheen to the song. Srinivas, who has developed a passion for such softy melodious numbers has given his best and so is Mahalakshmi. Thamarai's lyrics add strength to this melodious number. But it is Srinivas’s show all through.

5. Nerupae (Faranco, Sholar Sai, Sowmya Ray)

A hip-hop number in the album. Though no big names are featured in the song, the youngsters have come up trumps giving the right feel. An excellent attempt by Sowmya Ray, who walks away with all the honors. Her voice has the necessary pomp for such numbers. Yet again, Thamarai's youthful lyrics is another highlight.

It is a winner all the way.
