Majaa - Lives up to its name
IndiaGlitz  [Wednesday, October 12, 2005]

Music-director Vidyasagar and actor Vikram share an excellent rapport. In the past, music in movies like Dhil, Dhool and Arul featuring the two have topped the audio charts.

Now, Maja looks join the same league.

The strength of Maja’smusic is its vibrancy and vitality. Though not in the shades of Vidyasagar's Chandramukhi, Majaa has music quite apt to the movie'stitle.

The movie, directed by Shafi is a remake of Malayalam hit Thommanum Makkalum and interestingly Vidyasagar has composed songs withno inspiration from the original.

1. Chee Chee Enna (ShankarMahadevan, Harini, Viji, Savitha)

A romantic number with a catchy humming. The blend is beautiful. Vidyasagar has experimented with different instruments to create catchy sounds. Though the tune is not the most origin, but he has given the right fillip to the song with his excellent orchestration. The rhythmic beats are another feature of the song. Shankar Mahadevan is usual robust and willing.

2. HeyPangali (Udit Narayan, Tippu, Manickam Vinayakam)

This is the rocking song in the whole album. The heavyweights of fast music - Udit, Thippu and Manickam Vinayakam ----show a natural bonding and comfort in sharing the lyrics. A take off on Vidyasagar's song for Vikram in Dhool (AruvaMeesu), it's a fusion of Punjabi Bhangara with catchy western stuff. All credit to Udit Narayan for dominating the show. Apparently the title song in the movie, the fast and racy number is sure to click among the music buffs.

3. Solli Tharava (Madhu Balakrishnan, SadhanaSargam)

A soft melody, the song gets extra embellishment with MadhuBalakrishnan's dazzling voice. Though Madhu has rendered several such numbers every time he has combined with Vidyasagar, he gives a new feel to the song. Equally impressive is Sadhana Sargam. The harmony of the piano and the flute in between makes the song stick to the heart immediately.

4. Thaimasaam (Shankar Mahadevan, AnuradhaSriram)

This is a racy number quite typical to Anuradha Sreeram and Shankar Mahadevan. And the folksy stuff rocks all through. Vidyasagar is quite smart when it comes to such mass songs. He certainly doesn't disappoint his fans. The brisk voice of Shankar Mahadevan adds grace to the song.

5. Podhumada Sami  (Kailashekher)

Debutant Kailashekher renders this pathos number dominated by heavy music.Seemingly inspired by Rajasthani folk stuff, the song has lyrics which narrates the events the hero undergoes in his life.

All in all,Vidyasagar seems to have got the mix right.
