After Vikram starrer King almost a few years ago, director Prabhu Solomon and Dheena are back for Kokki. Supposedly on an offbeat theme, Kokki features Karan in the lead role.
Dheena, quite popular for his racy numbers, has not disappointed his fans in Kokki coming up with some foot-tapping songs. With his lucky mascot Malathy around, he has tried his best in the album. But in a couple of numbers, Dheena seems to be very predictable and re-creates only his earlier stuff.
Kabilan, Snehan, Pa Vijay and Yuga Bharathy have penned the lyrics.
Aanu Sonna Ayanavaram (Malathy)
Trying to recreate the magic of Manmadharasa, Dheena in the company of Malathy has come out with another fast number. But this one reminds a hit Telugu number. With use of heavy instruments, Dheena manages to get the rhythm going. Though not in the shades of Manmadharasa, it is certainly tipped to top the audio charts.
Ele Ele Kadhal (Madhusree)
Seemingly a rehash of yesteryear melodious number, the song has good harmony supported well by the flute and tabla. Quite unlike of Dheena, he has tried fusion of western and classical instrument which appeals to the hearts of the listeners immediately. Begins slow and gathers momentum as it progresses. Madhusree impresses with her simple but effective rendition.
 Ivana Yuvana (Madhusree, Karthik)
Inspired by the pop numbers of early 80s Hindi movies, this is an hip-hop song. Its appeal lies in its eternal simplicity and attractive lilt. Karthik's vibrant energy is matched well by Madhusree. However a sense of having hear such stuff before certainly takes away the sheen.
Summa Oru Thali (Manickam Vinayakam, Anuradha Sreeram)
What can one expect but for a hot and a racy stuff when Manickam Vinayakam, Anuradha Sreeram combine for Dheena's tunes. It is a typical racy folk number. Dheena has quite intelligently used nadhaswaram at appropriate places combining with the western beats
It can be the pick of the album. At any rate, it will impress the frontbenchers.
Ore Oru Sogam (Karthik)
The odd out in the album. Unlike Dheena, it is a slow pathos number with less instrumentation and more of lyrics. Karthik seems to have taken the burden on his shoulders and delivers it well.
On the whole, a mixed bag. The album has it moments. But there is nothing out of the world, too.
