 After Kadhal, almost a couple of years ago, music-director Joshua Sridhar is back again with Uyir. Supposedly a romantic entertainer, Uyir has Joshua Sridhar coming up with five tracks and a theme music which are predominantly melodious.
Keen to keep up his reputation, Joshua has put his best behind the songs and fairly succeeds in his attempts. Though not in the league of Kadhal, Joshua has managed to do a decent job.
Besides scoring tunes, Joshua has rendered his voice for three songs. Haricharan, Mahathy and Saindhavi have chipped in with their best.
Convent Sollitharum (Thippu)
It has become a convention to begin any album with a peppy and a racy number these days. Joshua is no exception to it. The song rendered by Thippu has brisk music and a racy rhythm accompanied by good use of stringed instruments. This hip-hop stuff is sure to regale listeners. But Thippu is getting monotonous. He needs to come up with more variations.
Udhadum Udhadum (Karthik, Saindhavi)
 A song set on a lively pace. But, it is interestingly accompanied by a soft lyrics and a soft music. Seemingly inspired by one of his own tunes in Kadhal, Joshua manages some refreshing turns. Karthik, as he is known, does the job well. His tonal modulations are impressive. And so is Saindhavi. Purushthoman on Thavil steals the show.
Aanum Ponnum (Joshua, Shalini and Mahathi)
A melodious and a soft song. Joshua has quite intelligently mixed the rural folk with western percussion. The mature voice of Joshua combines well with Naveen's flute to give the desired effect. The pick of the album indeed.
Kaan Simittum Neram (Haricharan, Saindhavi, Mahathy)
Yet another melody. Joshua seems to be at ease coming up with such tunes. Not just the soft tune and a good rhythm but also youthful lyrics by Na Muthukumar are the highlights of this number. Joshua's use of percussion instruments for slow melodious seems to be paying him rich dividends.
Kanne Kadhal Nilame (Pradeep, Joshua Sridhar, Harini Sudhakar)
A kind of fusion between the ease and west. Joshua has tried different sounds bringing together instruments including nadhaswaram. Pradheep's brisk voice combining with subtle variations of Joshua does the trick. This is sure to find its place in audio charts.
Joshua has certainly proved that he is no one film wonder.
