Pokkiri - For the masses
IndiaGlitz  [Monday, January 01, 2007]

Manisharma has come up with stylish and peppy numbers for Pokiri. The movie featuring Vijay and Asin in the lead roles is a remake of the blockbuster Telugu movie titled the same. Manisharma has retained some of his tunes in the original version for the Tamil remake. The songs are energetic, style and Manisharma has used modern instruments well.

The remix version of 'Vasanthamullai Pola', is a treat to the ears. Most of the songs in the album belongs to 'run of the mill' category. After a long gap, A V Ramanan is back to sing a couple of songs in the album.

Dole Dole Than Adikkiran (Ranjith, Suchithra)

It is a sensuous duet song. Suchitra's voice is very catchy while Ranjith tries hard to keep pace with her. The excellent use of violin in the interludes gives a good feel. The lyrics are catchy with a peppy chorus.

Aadungada Yennai Suththi (Naveen)

Again a peppy number. This time glorifying the hero (Vijay). Heavy chorus, beats and lots of instrumentation finds a place in the song. Naveen has sung it with lots of energy and his high-pitched voice sets the momentum. But the chorus in the middle could have been used in a better way to give a fresh feel. Naveen, who also sung the song in Telugu version, has sung it really well here too. Sure to catch the Vijay fans. One is reminded of the popular song Pothuvaga En Manasu in Murattukalai, while listening to the song.

Nee Mutham Onru (A V Ramanan, Suchitra)

The song is very appealing for it begins very mild. However as it progresses, it sounds more like a Bollywood remix song, which has become a trend these days. Suchitra has sung it so well and A V Ramanan gives her good company. Manisharma has opted for additional rhythm for the song.

Mambazhamam Mambazham (Shankar Mahadevan,Ganga)

It is a 'run of the mill' kind of duet number with catchy beats. The tune sounds very familiar to songs heard in Vijay's films before. Energetic Shankar Mahadevan in the company of Ganga has a free run in the song. A song which would make the front-benchers shake their legs in theatres.

En Chella Peru Apple (A V Ramanan, Suchitra)

Quite similar to the song May Madham in JJ. Manisharma has honestly reproduced the tune and the music and the only difference between the lyrics. The music composer has tried his hand at a Hindi rap and comes out with a catchy chorus in the middle.

Vasaantha Mullai Pozhle (Ragul Nambiyar, Krishnamoorthy)

The song is a remix version of the famous yesteryear classic song Vasantha Mullai Polae. The music director has retained the original tunes though the lyrics are different. But has used modern instruments with peppy beats to give a fresh feel to listeners. In short, this is a very good and melodious number. Ragul Nambiyar's voice reminds one of 'Malaysia Vasudevan'.
