Sa Boo Three - Gelling on gen next
IndiaGlitz  [Friday, November 06, 2009]

With the number of family audience coming to cinema halls getting dwindled, debutant filmmaker and actor Arshad Khan has churned out a film that targets the youths, who throng theatres often these days.

'Saa Boo Three' is a movie that dwells about the lives of three youngsters and their problems. How they approach them and what happens because of their romance forms the crux.

It is more a multiplex film that is set in an urban city like Chennai. Besides directing, Arshad Khan has played the lead role. Popular TV anchor Prajin and a host of newcomers form part of the cast. Produced by Rajesh Khanna, the film has music by Abbas Rafi.

Some portions of the movie is highly influenced by Hindi hits like 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. Double meaning dialogues and trivialising emotional moments take away the sheen from the movie.

Pal (Arshad Khan), Keerthy (Prajin) and Akshay (Bala) live in the same apartment. Pal runs behind women who are elder to him, while Akshay keeps changing his lovers. Keerthy and Jo (Sara) are married couple but don't see eye-to-eye. They divert their attention to online and mobile phones. What happens in their lives is what the movie is all about.

The movie has scenes which are enacted straight from 'Dil Chahta Hai'. The sequences involving Akshay at a discotheque is a straight-lift from it. Also the character of pal is seemingly inspired by one played by Akshay Khanna in the Hindi film.

Prajin and Sara's episode in the film manages to sustain some interest. How a mobile phone friend can change a shy and introvert youth into a lovable man formed the crux of 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. It has been used by the director for the Keerthy and Jo episode.

Arshad Khan seems to have mimed a popular actor, while Prajin does a decent job. Ujjaini looks good for the role while Mithuna is ok. There are enough dull moments in the movie. Music is loud and jarring. The songs have a peppy beat. The music composer should have concentrated more on the background score.

Had Arshad Khan infused more pace and cut down the crude dialogues in the name of humour, 'Sa Boo Three' would have a game that everyone would want to play their hands with.
