2007 had emerged as the year for new directors in the Malayalam cinema. The year witnessed the creation of 19 new directors in Mollywood. The new comers who grabbed the attention were Amal Neerad, M Mohanan, Jithu Joseph and Jayasuriya, whose movies were widely appreciated in the box office.
M Mohanan's 'Kathaparayumpol' in the scripts of Sreenivasan is emerging as a bigger hit than expected. The film with Mammootty and Sreenivasan was noted for its well handled satire and good performances from the lead.
Amal Neerad with Big B proved that there are many ways, not yet explored to tell an action story. The movie made reasonable run at the box office.
Jithu Joseph with 'Detective' and Jayasuriya with 'The Speed Track', were able to tell stories of different genre in their own styles. Both these films also made good run at the box office.
The other directors who made their inspirational beginnings in 2007 were Bipin Prabhakar (Khakhi), S P Mahesh (Changathy Poocha), Udhay Ananthan (Pranayakalam) Babu Thiruvalla (Thaniye), Madhu Kaithapram (Ekantham)and Avira Rebeca (Thakarachenda).
