 One of the popular and prominent artists Dasari Narayana Rao has been shortlisted for the prestigious NTR National award 2007.
Dasari entered Telugu cinema like a tempest four decades ago with a comedy movie ‘Thata Manavadu’ with Rajubabu in the lead. Brushing aside the star heroes, the movie out-rated the so called image and Dasari established himself in Telugu industry.
He so far has directed over 150 films with a success ratio of 82 percent, produced above 53 films, worked as a writer for more than 250 films, over 1000 lyrical compositions. Apart from all these, he holds credit for introducing many young and new talents to Tollywood.
Most of his films were message oriented endeavors based on social themes. ‘Thatha Manavadu’, ‘Samsaram Saagaram’, ‘Swargam Narakam’, ‘Megha Sandesam’, ‘Bhishma’, ‘Mamagaru’, ‘Bobbilli Puli’, ‘Premabishekam’, ‘Chillara Kottu Chittemma’, ‘Mamagaru’, ‘Osey Ramulamma’, ‘Kante Koothurne Kanu’ are some of the films which are critically acclaimed and bagged many awards.
Apart from his artistic contributions he also served as President of APFCC, South Indian Film Directors Association for 15 years, FEFSI, SIFCC and many more organizations related to film industry. He has also served the industry through his positions in Ministry of govt. of India.
Earlier, Andhra University awarded him with the Doctorate titled 'Kalaprapoorna' for his contribution to Telugu Cinema in 1986. With various accolades to his credit, the NTR National Award is a feather in his cap.
