Election campaign confides on cinema
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 05, 2009]

The mass media cinema has now become the confiding place to resign for politics. With the power to reach public in earnest, movies are not just another sort of entertainment but a part of life in AP. Sensing this credibility, political parties are betting high on the glitz and glamour.

After AR Rahman bagged the Oscar for ‘Jai Ho’, it’s the most widely hummed song of the times. Congress party sprinted into action to buy the rights and it has become their theme song for the nation-wide campaign. The ruling party will use Mumaith Khan’s item number (!) from ‘Pokkiri’ and in AP they have released ads with ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ and ‘Arre Re…’ from ‘Happy Days’ in the background score.

Music directors Vandemataram Srinivas and Mani Sharma will set the lyrics to tunes to promote the party and to reap votes in the upcoming elections. Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, campaign manager of Congress party reveals that it’s just the best route to capture people’s interest with these popular hits.

Audio CDs featuring chartbuster hits of NTR, Balakrishna and Junior NTR will soon hit the stores released by Telugu Desam party. The motive is to solicit the support of people from rural areas who are ardent fans of these old time hits, says TDP’s ad-campaign designer and actor AVS.

Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam is not far behind as the mega star’s fan following is massive and the hit ‘Nenu Saitham Prapanchaniki’ (Tagore) is constantly heard during campaigns along with his other popular hits. Apart from this, a promo video is in the making featuring Chiru and Pawan which will be out during peak hours of election campaign.

Everyone in town is thriving on cinema’s glamour in this by elections and one should wait to see how far our people will comprehend the verity to make the right choice.
