 Padmashree Dr SP Balasubrahmaniyam will be honored by TANA (Telugu Association of North America) with a Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009. Widely known as Balu and SPB the legendary singer, debuted as a singer in 1966 (Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna) in the music direction of his mentor Kodandapani. Today he holds the Guinness record for the rare achievement of voicing over 40,000 songs in various Indian languages, in a span of over 4 decades of his career. Apart from singing SPB is also popular as a music director (over 47 films), actor (68 movies), producer (4 films) and dubbing artist (over 55 movies). Earlier recipients of this award are P.Suseela, Vempati Chinasatyam, Rama Naidu, Prof. CR Rao, Velcheru Narayana Rao and Gummadi Venkateshwara Rao. This year congregation of TANA is expected to be glitzy and colorful, as many stars including Jr.NTR will participate in the event.
