Pillayar is the Tamil name of Lord Vinayaka. There are many forms of Pillayar and according to sources, there is one called Rajini Pillayar. This temple is at the premises of the famous AVM studios in Chennai.

The reason for this name for the temple is that the superstar always breaks a coconut at this temple before starting shoot for any of his movies.

This seems to have been his custom right from his starting days. From that time, this Pillayar has been known as Rajini Pillayar. Many other movies seem to have been launched at this temple even today and the temple is a rather busy place.
