First it was Kollywood which was overawed by Telugu films. The style of a Vinayak (yes, it was this maker of Aadi who was among the first directors to inspire some Tamil directors) was immediately lapped up by a creator or two nearly a decade ago.
The trend has later been picked up by Bollywood. With the raging success of Ghajini, we thought it was all Kollywood that Hindi would try to emulate. Wanted, directed by Prabhu Deva, changed the game. The theatre of inspiration shifted to Tollywood.
Susvagatham (Kya Yehi Pyaar Hain), Chudalani Vundi (Calcutta Mail), Anthahpuram (Shakthi), Raja (Dil Chor), Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahen (Kalisundam Raa) were some of the remakes of the past decade. From Okkadu (Gilli), Pokiri (Pokkiri), Athadu (Nandhu), Bommarillu (Santhosa Subramani), to Kick (Thillalangadi) and Vikramarkudu (Siruthai), many Telugu films have inspired Kollywood.
The latest to join the bandwagon are Nandini Redd''s Ala Modalaindi and Vikram K Kumar's Ishq. The remake rights of these films are owned by Boney Kapoor. The success of these films will be different, as these are not action, mass entertainers but feel-good romances.
