Following the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to stop re-certifying A-rated films for tv viewing, the position of the produces, mainly belonging to Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood, has become rather wobbly.
Of late, films with over-depiction of violence have been awarded 'A,' besides those depicting explicit sexual content and voyeurism. As a result, in Telugu (as in other industries), big-ticket projects like Businessman and Dammu have been given 'A.' This was no headache as far as the Board did not stipulate against their broadcasting on television at any time of the day or refuse to re-certify them for tv.
The position is now critical because the Board has decided not re-certify A-rated films from last Friday. What does this mean? These films cannot be telecast on tv from now because they would not be certified!
Needless to say, it will mean great amount of losses to the producers in the form of foregoing profits in the sale of satellite rights. Besides, it means even the channels who have bought such films at big prices are now left in the lurch.
