Is 'Aiyya' going to find itself in trouble right at the very onset? Pretty much seems like the case if its attempt at stereotyping South Indians is any indication.

"The film's promo has Rani Mukherjee confessing that she doesn't like 'gore ladke' (fair boys) and instead prefers 'kaala' (dark). So far so okay! However soon she goes on to share her fascination for South Indians as well, hence equating dark skinned men to them", comments an observer.

This has already kick-started a mini debate of sorts and though it has been merely a few days since the promo was released, it is expected that the debate would only surge in the week ahead.

What makes matters worse is the fact that the man who ultimately manages to sweep Rani off her feet in the film is actually a South Indian, both by characterisation and origin.

"Prithviraj Sukumaran is a star down South and for him 'Aiyya' is his debut Hindi film. It is rather surprising that he has a stereotypical role like this", a colleague adds.

There are some who feel that a lot is being made out of nothing. "Come, it's a film after all", a film enthusiast added, "It is only for the laughs and one must not forget that stereotypes can be found all over.

Rani has been in the business for years to understand that she won't be making any such serious statements. It is just a character that she is playing so let's leave it at just that."
