No Telugu Films This Year's IFFI Too

We talk numbers... Around 200 films every year. We talk about heroe's stamina... Collections of 30 Crores in the first weekend. We talk about the budgets and big tickets... Films are made at an average 40 Crore per big film. We talk about the number of bankable stars... More than a dozen stars that are commercially viable, at least for publicity. Well, it's time to talk about, national presence... Awards, strong contention at festivals, buzz in the national scenario, potential for multi-lingual audiences. No way that Telugu films have a statement to make or an example to cite.

This year too, there is no Telugu film that's been selected for screening at the Indian Panorama of the 44th International Film Festival Of India (IFFI 2013) to be held in Goa in November. One Kannada film, 'Bharath Stores', directed by Seshadri and produced by Basanth Kumar Patil and one Tamil film 'Thanga Meengal', directed and produced by Ramasubramanian, feature in the list along with Malayalam films. 'Kanyaka Talkies' is the opening film of the Indian Panorama section.

Several independent and sane voices have been raising in the Tollywood marketplace about the need for a paradigm shift in the way Telugu films are being made. The same revenge masala story studded with songs and dance and fights that waste creativity, technology and money bags on popcorn. It's time these people are heard.
