I don't want to be an ‘action’ hero alone: Prabhas

    Friday, June 25, 2004
After failing to impress with ’Eashwar’ and ‘Raghavendra’, young actor Prabhas arrived with a bang with blockbuster ''Varsham’. His new-found stardom lost some of its luster, however, with the routine potboiler ‘Aadavi Ramdu’.Now he is eagerly looking forward to his next film under ace director Krishna Vamsi. And he is preparing himself for the ‘tough job’.

The ‘action’ star intends to explore all kinds of roles instead of confining himself to ’dishum-dishum’ roles.
    Excerpt from an interview:

After the highly successful ‘Varsham’, why did you choose a film with an oft-repeated tale like ‘Aadavi Ramudu’?

I do agree that ‘Varsham’ has been the biggest hit of my career so far. But I disagree that ‘Aadavi Ramudu’ has disappointed us. On the contrary buyers have recovered their money.

It was intended to be a mass-centric entertainer and we are happy about the response of our target audience. The film was shelved twice for some reasons, but director B Gopal’s perseverance paid off. His confidence in the subject stands vindicated.

My role of a tribal boy was quite different from my previous roles. It has given me the confidence to pursue my dream of exploring varied roles instead confining myself to ‘action’ roles.

You should be excited about your next much-talked film ‘Chakram’ with ace director Krishna Vamsi?

I am truly excited. I have been looking forward to working with this classy film-maker for quite some time. I will look different in the film. I was thrilled when I heard the story.
The character demands a good performance. If I can live up to the director’s expectations, it will definitely fetch me a good name. The film will have some ‘action’. But it can be better described as a different film.

Do you feel that ‘Varsham’ would have been an ideal debut instead of ‘Eashwar’?

I don't think so. ‘Eashwar’ was a success and the winning streak has been continuing except for ‘Raghavendra’ which disappointed us. I gained a good number of fans after by debut film, in addition to the fans of my uncle and veteran actor Krishnam Raju. He has been my best critic. He liked my performance in ‘Eashwar’ and he also predicted ‘Varsham’ would prove a big winner. Another dream of mine is to work with my uncle. I think it will be fulfilled soon under our home production Gopi Krishna Movies, if we can find a powerful subject befitting his stature.

Can you say something about your forthcoming projects?

After Vamsi’s film, I will probably commence shooting for director Rajamouli of ‘Simhadri’ fame since the script has been finalized. I would like to do one film for our prestigious banner Gopi Krishna movies.I am open, however, to new producers and directors who come up with fresh concepts. My priority would be a ‘solid’ script, while other things come later.

I received appreciation for my dancing in ‘Varsham’ and I would thank choreographer Lawrence for it. I have resolved to improve my dancing with practice.
