You banked on "Donga Dongadi" to make a big comeback but it failed to give you reprieve. Now you are pinning hopes on a dubbed film "Monalisa"?
I don't agree that it was a comeback film since I never left the Telugu industry in the first place. But it's true that I didn't get any big hit on par with my debut film "Jayam". I am confident of a similar success soon.
I took up "Donga Dongadi" not as a comeback film but because the role had a lot of shades. I enjoyed playing the prankster who falls in love. Even the Tamil version "Thiruda Thirudi" opened to a mixed response and picked up later.
I am looking forward to the response to Telugu "Monalisa". It's a slick love story and I think it has all the makings of a winner. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Do you regret doing "Naaga" and "Pranaam"? Have you signed up for any new projects?
About the first question, not at all. I enjoyed doing "Naaga" with NTR Jr. But I felt that my character should have been much better. The arty "Pranaam" fetched appreciation and it was a good experience. No one in my family is familiar with films. So mistakes are bound to occur, but I have resolved to take things in my stride.
I do, however, regret missing out on the role played by Kalyani in "Vasantham" due to date problems. Besides a good role, I also missed the opportunity to work with Venky and Vikraman.
I have rejected a few offers and discussed some since I want to be selective. But nothing is finalized yet.
Are you happy with the progress of your career in Tamil after "Jayam"?
Interestingly, Telugu "Jayam" launched me in Telugu while Tamil "Jayam" gave me a break in Tamil. I did "Ethiri" with Madhavan and it was interesting. My guest role in "Varnajalam" was also appreciated.
Now I have bagged a role in the prized project of "Anniyan". I never even imagined in my dreams that I would be doing a film with my favorite director Shankar. It all happened in a tizzy and I have already shot for 40 per cent of the film. Shankar is meticulous about everything and he always thinks big. I do have a significant role in his magnum opus.
You were transformed into a 'glam girl' with "Monalisa". Do you intend to do more glamorous roles?
ut of seven Kannada offers, I chose "Monalisa" since besides glamour it also had enough scope for performance. It was a trend-setting film in Kannada and its prospects are bright even for Telugu.
I am averse to glamorous roles without any substance. Though I personally prefer traditional roles. I am game for glamorous ones that have significance in the script.
I haven't signed up any new Kannada film despite receiving a good number of offers since I want to be choosy.
I also intend to remain a multilingual actress and do solid roles instead of repeating myself by sticking to one language.
