What's the film you are working on now?
Pandem. Pandem means a wager. It is an interesting film about an interesting individual. The story revolves around him. I would not want to go into the story, as it would be giving the game away. Suffice to say it will be an entertaining film.
We are also told that your has shades of comedy in it…
Yes. It is a fun film with lots of entertainment.
Is it not a gamble, you have hardly played any comedy roles?
Every film has some humour element in it. Okay, I don't play a full-fledged comedy role regularly, but I guess there has been an element of humor in many of my movies. Hanuman Junction, for example.
This is your third film with Kalyani…
Yes, she is a nice artiste to work with. She is a thorough professional. More than anything else our pairing has been welcomed by the audience. That is what matters at the end of the day.
Tell us about Pedababu, your last film which was a hit
Peddababu did very well and I am happy about it. Women came to theatres to watch the movie, missing their serials on TV. The collections were very good.
Don't do you think you are typecast in particular kind of roles?
I am comfortable in such roles and I don't agree that I am being typecast. I have also done roles that are action oriented, but basically I am a bit sentimental and that could be one of the reasons why I am so convincing in these roles.
You won a Nandi award in an off-beat experimental role in Anthapuram…
Well, that was a great role. It doesn't happen regularly.
Your favorite movies
Many, in fact. S V Krishna Reddy' Shubalagnam. Ram Gopal Varma's Gayam. Pedababu. Anthapuram. The list is big.
On comparisons with Shoban Babu (due to their two-heroine films)?
Yeah, I worked in several movies that had more heroines. It's really tough handling too many women at a time, and after watching myself in reel life I decided that one woman is the right choice for me in real life.
