Sharing a song with Balu is my life ambition - Ganga
Tuesday, September 11, 2007

It is well aware to all the audiences how popular the song ''Naachore Naacho haa…'', the title song in ''Yamadonga'' was. That song was rendered by a singer called Ganga. Music director Keeravani had introduced this Kerala girl to the Telugu film industry. Ganga admits that popular Bollywood singer Bharata Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was her inspiration for taking up singing. She claims that her life ambition is to share a song with Gana Gandharva SP Balasubrahmanyam. Indiaglitz had a tête-à-tête with this budding singer.

Over to Ganga.

Greeting Ms Ganga! We would like to take your interview.

Oh. Sure. Let me greet the indiaglitz.com browsers first. My best wishes to all.

Tell our browsers about you…

I am a native of Kerala and basically we are Malayalees. I love music right from my childhood. Both my parents are professors which means, I came from a teachers' family. I learnt Carnatic music in Kerala itself. I have a strong ambition to become a good playback singer.

Then who gave you an opportunity in Telugu?

It is Mr Keeravani. He is my Godfather. I sang tracks for his film 'Aakasa Veedhilo', when he was scoring music for that movie. On that occasion, I had a chance to meet him. On listening my voice he gave me a chance to sing four songs in that film including 'Bob re Bob'.

Who others encouraged you in Telugu film industry?

Ramana Gogula made me sing a bit for a song in 'Premante Idera'. Next it was Koti. But I sang most of the songs in Telugu under Keeravani's music direction. Of all the songs, I like the song 'Vennello Aadapilla Nenaithe…' in 'Aakasaveedhilo' very much.

Tell us about the songs you rendered in Telugu films.

I sang most of the songs under Keeravani's music direction and it would be around 42 in his albums only. Incidentally, most of the songs were from NTR's films. To be precise, the hit songs include… 'Pattu okatosaari' in 'Aadi', 'Mast mast sangathundi neelo pori…' in Subbu under Manisharma's music direction, 'Tagilinadi rabba teepi tholi debba' in 'Samba' and 'Jingallo Jinga' in 'Simhadri'.

Tell us about the other songs also…

My other hit songs include 'Nenu puttindemo nee kosame…' in 'Lakshmi' under Ramana Gogula music direction, 'Oka manasuto oka manasuku mudi yetta vestavu…' scripted by Chandrabose for 'Ee Abbayi Chaala Manchodu', 'Prema yentha goppadani teliyakane premincha' in 'Yevare Athagadu' and 'Nadaradeena Nadaradeena Nadaradeena… Nachina daanikosam naa tapana' for 'Okariki Okaru'.

Your song in 'Yamadonga' has become very famous. Tell us about that song

When I was with my sister in Bangalore, Keeravani's manager Basha called me up and asked me to rush to Hyderabad. I came here. Then Keeravani asked me whether I visited any discotheque earlier. I replied to him that I did never go to such place but I know what kind of songs would be played there which I saw in various films. Then he gave me a song and told me that I should sing that song as if I was addicted to a drug in a discotheque. That song is the one which you mentioned as a hit song… 'Nachore Nacho haa…'. Really I am getting more and more opportunities in Telugu after the success of that song.

What are the projects on hand now in Telugu?

I am singing songs in 'Veedu Maamoolodu Kaadu' of Dinesh Brothers under the music direction of SA Rajkumar, 'Manjeera' under the music direction of Shankar Chandra and 'Viyyalavari Kayyalu' with Ramana Gogula.

Don't you feel problems with regard to language?

The problems related to pronunciation could be avoided with the help of music directors. But whenever there were double meaning words and a little vulgarity, there will be a little problem, because no one dares to explain it to me. I will try my best to avoid such songs.

Thank you Ms Ganga. Thank you for sharing all these details with our browsers.

I too thank you and your browsers for giving me this opportunity.
