Dammu Music Review

This album will be remembered for a mix of influences and working a throwback.  It looks like the genres chosen by Keeravani were inspired by the story.  As one listens to the album, one is convinced that it is the visuals that alone can redeem the music.

Chandrabose does a good job, although his work seems hackneyed at some places.  The singers, from Baba Sehgal to Rahul Sipligunj and Geetha Madhuri and others are at their best.

The song is a cross between a folk and a pub song.   While the use of everyday English gives it a modern feel, Baba Sehgal's voice perfectly suits for NTR.  Chandrabose is not inventive, but Keeravani lends his usual midas touch.

It seems the song stemmed from the makers' intent to shower panegyrics on the hero without sounding routine.  Keeravani's music sounds like a lift from a historical, while the lyrics might have been written for a Rajamouli periodical.  The vocals are right, complete with Geetha Madhuri's soft voice.

Keeravani's instrumentation is a throwback to the retro era.  The invocation of lineage and descent make it sound all the more historical.  The vocals are not very impressive, considering that the song has been shot on NTR.

To the extent that there is nothing hummable or foot-tapping, the song disappoints.  Chandrabose's lyrics are full of doubles entendres.  Keeravani's beats work somewhere in the middle, though one feels that the song is not a bit novel.  Rahul and Sravana Bhargavi's vocals are good.

In the end, Dhammu means 'stamina' (you know what we mean).  One wonders if the song was written by Chandrabaose as a teen after watching a film Nari Nari Nadamurari.  If the phrases like 'Use chesuko' do not cut ice, Keeravani follows a beaten track.  For all the erotica, this one makes a good listen.
