Gundammagari Manavadu - A combination of fast beat, melody and old melody
IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, May 08, 2007]

Ali who entered the film industry as a child artiste, turned a comedian at a later date. He was promoted as hero by SV Krishna Reddy. After a couple of hits as hero, Ali continued to do his routine comedian roles. Very recently, SV Krishna Reddy again made him a hero with 'Hangama' along with Venumadhav, marking the start of his second innings as hero. B Jaya, the journalist-turned-director, chose him as hero for her film 'Gundammagari Manavadu'. Vandemataram Srinivas gave once again proved that he could give fantastic music both in melody as well as fast beat through this film. He chose folk beat to two songs. Two more songs were remix of old melodies, while two others were melody based songs. 'Brahmey Eduruga…' and 'Mandhu' are worth listening for several times.

Okkasari   Singers: Jassie Gift, Kalpana

The number is quite fast, with rhythmic drum beat. The violin backdrop with drumbeat gives good scope for the artistes to shake their legs. The trumpet and saxophone sounds elevated the tempo. The husky voice of Kalpana gave a good moment to the voice of Jassie Gift. The music director ensured good drumbeat between the stanzas to give a good relief to the artistes to show their dancing talents. The humming of 'Okkasari' in the interludes help the mass enjoy the song by dancing.

Mahalakshmi   Singer: Jassie Gift

The number was tuned in folk tune. The drumbeat coupled with the keyboard music give a mood to the listeners to tap his feet. The humming in folk style elevated the mood of the song's beat. The hero (singer) looks 'Maalakshmi' in everything. The way the lyric scripted was very good with lot of literary value. The violin and the keyboard in the interludes gives a breathing space for the singer and the artiste to shake his legs. The song was ended in a fast beat like any other folklore song.

Chengavi   Singer: Raghu Kunche, Sunitha

This is an old and popular tune from Akkineni Nageswara Rao's classic. This was remixed for this song. Though the 'Pallavi' was taken exactly from the original, the 'stanzas' (charanams) were changed (as part of the remix). The interlude music was also changed to suit the current trend. However, the entire tune of the lyric was used as it is. Good work done by the music director, while Raghu Kunche and Sunitha reproduced the song well.

Brahmey Edurugaa…   Singer: Karunya

For the first time in Telugu film history a song on Bamma (grandma) was scripted. The greatness of a grandma rendered through a song by a grandson. The song was tuned as a melody. The script of the song would touch the hearts of the audiences once they listen in a peaceful mood. The judicious use of keyboard, guitar and drums soothes the souls while listening song. The literary values in the song are great and Pydisetti Sriram should be complimented for giving a such a great song. No doubt, the song had the chance of winning awards. Karunya, the Indian Idol runner up, rendered it very well.

Manasye Vunna…   Singers: Chakri, Kausalya

This is a routine commercial formula kind of tune with a fast beat beginning with a western humming. Though the song has foot-tapping music the song looked average and might have good choreographic values. The music interlude before the second stanza is worth listening, with good humming from Kausalya. The sound almost dominated the voice and could be treated an average number.

Mandhu   Singer: Thanikella Bharani

This was another mix from the classic 'Maya Bazaar' which is quite popular as 'Vivaha Bhojanambu'. In fact this is a parody to that song by a hard
