Hungama - For fun sake
IndiaGlitz  [Saturday, April 30, 2005]

If you like to have fun without any logic and you don't mind ribald and risque dialogues, then Hungama may be your kind of film. You have to have a particular bent of mind to like Hungama. The theme is of course comedy of errors and add to it is pure out-of-the-box comedy capers and double entendre dialogues.

To cast main-line comedians takes lot of guts, and on that score alone S V Krishna Reddy who has handled many things in this film, deserves a pat on the back.

The basic premise of the story is simple: Chinababu (Tanikella Barani) humiliates Sithapathi (Sunil) in a fit of rich man's arrogance.

Sithapathi thirsts for revenge and he does so by sending out a rag picker, Balu (Venu Madhav) as a millionaire. The whole idea is to set him up as the bridegroom for Chinababu's daughter (Jyothy).

As it happens, Balu goofs it up all and ends falling in love with Chinababu's brother Pedababu daughter (Abinayasri). So Sithapathi sends Bhadri (Ali) to woo Jyothy. And then there is Brahmanandam to add to the confusion.

The rest of the mad capers is all Hungama all about.

Venu Madhav and Brahmanandam walk away with all the credit. The former mimes all the top heroes in Telugu while the latter's spontaneous comic sense has the house in splits.

Ali and Sunil are also adequate. The two girls fit the bill without ever really coming into the essential scheme of things.

The technical aspects are about a TV serials' level ---tacky and amateurish.

Krishna Reddy seems to have taken a lot of license on the premise of fun.
