 One of the major changes that have come into filmmaking these days is the lack of space for middle class family-centered comedies that Rajendra Prasad used to specialize in not long ago. Both family sentiments and situational humor have gone out of the window. Ergo, there is little place for Rajendra Prasad-like heroes.
Rajendra Prasad sure spawned a generation of simple everyday comedy. The humor was simple and easily understandable and embraceable. But filmmaking these days has become much more complicate and very technology driven. A certain amount of humanism is missing.
But Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw, directed by Nidhi Prasad, is all about humanism and earthy humor. It will reinforce the kind of things that Rajendra Prasad stood for not long ago.
Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw verily tries to etch out a story on human greediness and sympathy. A remake of the Hindi hit Malamaal Weekly, it is a comedy riot, with enough pauses for you to ponder.
It is a story of a lottery ticket seller, who sells a winning lottery. The man who bought it is dead. So what happens after that in a cloistered and closed-knit village?
Well, this is the broad backdrop of this interesting comedy film.
Priyadarshan’s Malamaal Weekly was a runaway hit. The producer of Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw hopes to repeat that performance here.
Rajendra Prasad, Rishi and newcomer Farzana play the lead roles
Produced by V Srinivas under the banner of Silver Screen Pictures, the film has almost all the popular comedians in the Telugu film industry in it.
Interestingly, it is Rishi, the hero of A Film By Aravind, is paired up with Farzana. Rajendra Prasad, by all reckoning, and has put in an energetic performance. ‘It is his kind of role and he has added grace and poise to it,’ says the director.
Srinivas and Nidhi Prasad both feel that they are sitting on a winner.
The story, they say, is very endearing. The film can be a parable of our times. It is a comedy with a strong underlying message, he adds.
The shooting is over and the film is set for release in November.
