Kavya's Diary - Not So Great
IndiaGlitz  [Friday, June 05, 2009]

A stranger comes into the home of a happy family of husband, wife and kids. Though the stranger gets close to them in no time, things begin to take a different shape and it gets to a stage where people get killed. What is the reason for this, let us go and see

Story

Pooja (manjula) is a green house expert and moves to her new home along with husband Raj (indrajith) who is a scientist and her two children. Her life goes happily but one day, her kid is saved from a sure accident by one girl, her name is Kavya (charmee). Pooja gets her home and asks her to stay with them to take care of the kids. In no time, both of them become good friends and it gets so close that when Raj’s brother Abhi (shashank) falls in love with Kavya and starts following her. However, on his return to Bangalore, a freak hit and run accident happens which causes the death of Abhi. On the other hand, misunderstanding happens between Raj and Pooja, also their home gardener Athi D (satyam rajesh) is also sent out of the house due to misconception. Who is responsible for all this? What is the cause for this? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Manjula came up with a natural performance and showed comfort in her act, however, she could have worked on few expressions when it came to tense scenes. Indrajith was okay, Shashank did his bit with ease and Satyam Rajesh was mild. The film belonged to Charmee once again as her character was strong and she came up with an impressive performance. The others did not have much to do in this.

Technical aspects

The dialogues were written without much confusion and the script was also clean. The screenplay was orderly. Music was good in terms of songs but the background score proved to be unnecessary at some scenes. Cinematography was remarkable. Editing was abrupt at few points, the costumes and art department were good and gave a trendy look. Songs were captured very well and overall, the production values were above average.

Director’s portrayal

The director has come up with a storyline that could have been a nail biting treat but then he could not capture the tension with his narrative. It was weak and slow. The presentation however was good and likeable. He could not handle the screenplay effectively since a lot depended on it. The key factor here was to keep the suspense element intact but then the director put all his cards on the table before hand leaving nothing for the audience to guess.

Critic’s view

The film has been made very well technically but then since the storyline was quite simple, it relied a lot on some twisted scenes and suspense moments. This was not used to the fullest and moreover, the first half was proceeding at a very mild pace. It is only the second half where things really pick up the heat but then there is nothing intriguing or stimulating that will keep the audience in anticipation. The films of such genre are a common sight in Hollywood but then the motive was acceptable.

Verdict

Could have been better
