Nuvvala Nenila Movie Review - Potential in vain

IndiaGlitz  [Friday, August 08, 2014]

Of late, Telugu cinema is trying to churn out coming-of-age stories.  After ‘Second Hand’, ‘Prema Ishq Kadal’, ‘Routine Love Story’, it’s the turn of Trinadha Rao Nakkina to bring out an unusual story.  But the sad part of it is that, unlike the aforementioned films, he doesn’t succeed in engaging our attention.  Trinadha has the record of making two good films (‘Mem Vayasuku Vaccham’ and ‘Priyatama Neevachata Kushalama’) but in this case, he doesn’t live up to the critic’s expectations.  (The audience don’t seem to have any expectation from him, as the flop PNK, which starred Varun Sandesh, shows).

Krishna Mohan (Varun Sandesh) is the son of a rich man.  The father loses all his property and Krish moves to America to do a job.  Driven by the desire to earn back the lost wealth, he comes back to India and joins an organization.  In the organization, he finds that his female boss Maha Lakshmi (Poorna) is in love with a guy.  The boy ditches her and it’s Varun’s turn to mock her.  In the heat of the moment (a lengthy conversation), Krish asks Mahi to impress him if she can.

Will Krish fall in love with Mahi?  What happens to Gopi, the ex of Mahi?  Will Krish realize his dream of earning back the father’s lost wealth?

On the face of it, the storyline looks good enough.  The director uses his skill to embellish the film with good visuals.  Cinematography is the film’s biggest asset.  However, if the body is beautiful, the soul is not substantial enough.  Besides the camera work, some dialogues are intelligent, just as the way they were in the director’s previous films.  Trinadha has a knack for presenting the inner turmoil or conflict between two characters in a mature fashion, but that knack is not fully on display here.  There are flashes of wittiness and that is all.

One is sure to feel that the narration has gone for a toss when comedy scenes that are not funny enough hinder the flow of the film.  The length of the film is another dampener.

Varun Sandesh is a good talent who has been wasted in ill-written roles.  Poorna gets to play an author-backed role and she does her part well.  Others like Uttej fit the bill.

Sai Karthik’s music passes muster.

Verdict: One wishes that Trinadha avoided the trap that our directors are prone to fall it.  A film that could have been better.

Rating: 1.75/5
