Chennai Box Office verdict on 'Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru'

Since the long Pongal weekend is fast approaching, Kollywood did not have any new release last weekend. The films that were ruling the Chennai BO for the past few weeks, continued there successful run.

Ameer Khan's 'Dangal' which is creating new box office records has emerged as the All time blockbuster in Chennai BO with the over allcollections coming close to 4 crores in 14 days of release. The total collection made by the film directed by Nitesh Tiwari including its Tamil dubbed version stands at Rs.3,87,84,420. In the immediate past weekend, the film achieved 75% occupancy with 210 shows across 18 screens.

Debutant Karthik Naren's critically acclaimed 'Dhurvangal Pathinaaru' got a huge face lift in its second weekend thanks to overwhelming positive reviews from critics as well as movie buffs. The film has ben moved to many big screens and the shows count also increased to a great extent.

The film with predominantly newcomers except the lead actor Rahman has managed to grab 70% theater occupancy with 270 shows across 12 screens and with that the film has collected Rs.52,32,260 in its second weekend at Chennai Box Office. The verdict from Trade analysts is that the film's performance has been Excellent and holding very well in the city.

The blockbuster 'Chennai 600028 II' that released on December 8, 2016 still manages to attract movie going public in Chennai and has had 75% occupancy in this weekend. The film's total collection went up above Rs.3 crores (Rs.3,38,08,480).

'Achamindri' hailed as a bold film against corrupt elements in Education system has also performed decently in its second weekend. It has had 80% occupancy in the 40 shows it was screened across eight theaters within the city limits. The film' directed by Rajapandi has collected Rs.3,35,240 in this weekend. Trade calls it 'Average'.

Vishal's 'Kaththi Sandai' that was panned by critics has managed to enter the Above Average category with the overall collections crossing Rs.2 crores in Chennai. With 56 shows across nine screens, the film has collected Rs.7,68,700 with an average of 70% occupancy.

All the films mentioned above will have considerable decrease in the number of screens and shows in the coming weekend since three films are expected to hit the screens for the grand Pongal weekend. The Pongal festivities at the box office will begin from Thrusday (January 12) with the release of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Bairavaa'.
