How else could you describe the entry of SM Raju, a Software officer in a plush position drawing huge dollars in USA, into tinsel town with a rural flick, Varnam? Raju, who is clearly bitten by the film bug, is both producing and directing his debut venture, 'Varnam'.

The movie’s audio, composed by Isaac Thomas, was launched at an event held in Sathyam Cinemas on Wednesday morning. Balu Mahendra launched the audio as director Ameer received the first copy. Acclaimed cinematographer Madhu Ambat launched the trailer, which was received by ‘Subramaniapuram’ Sasikumar.

Wondering about Raju’s decision to make the movie, director Ameer said the film bug, once bitten, cannot be escaped. “He has directed and produced his first film, that too, without ever having worked as an assistant to anyone before. He really deserves a round of applause,” said the director, also recounting a personal experience. “When the audio of 'Mounam Pesiyadhey' was launched, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam were the chief guests, and I told them their films were my lessons and I learnt by watching them. Here is another filmmaker who has only watched films to learn the heart. I hope he succeeds as the songs are promising,” said the director.

New comers Giri and Ashwatha play the lead in this film, while Monika plays the role of a teacher in it. The film is produced by Alka Film Corporation and Mediazen.
