Cobra Review

After all that poor performances with his recent movies, we expected that the megastar of Mollywood, Mammootty would have learned something to better his stature at the Box Office. But here with this much expected `Kobra' what we see is a very lethal outing with a poorly sketched plot, pathetic performances, horrendous one-liners and a silly climax.And the viewers who had seen all those bright movies and characters from the star are left to suppurate on the way things are going...Is that rings the closing stages of one of the most commercial superstar of Mollywood? We are sure the discussions in the next few weeks will be definitely on these lines, as this `Kobra'is definitely one, least expected from the likes of Lal, who with Siddique had once   redefined the quality of humorous flicks.

`Kobra' has more than ridiculous wafer-thin plot about two non-identical twins, Raja(Mammootty) and Kari(Lal) who for the most of the time, on screen, boast of their love for each other. Immensely rich and equally stupid , they are looking for two sisters to get married so that they can continue with their title of co-brothers. This can also add to their status of brotherhood, as most of their relatives doubt about them to be twins, as one happens to be too fair and the other, a bit too dark.

The movie opens with the personal security men of `Kobras' as they love to call themselves, narrating their tale to local villagers. And in their attempt to settle in Coimbatore, they find two sisters Sherly and Annie, son of a failed business man John Samuel(Lalu Alex), who is trying to sell his bungalow to retain a hospital, traditionally run by their family. The `Kobra's become his saviour, take on the villains and appease the two sisters in the rest of the proceedings and how they do it forms the rest of the story.

The senior stars Mammooty and Lal  and their henchman, in their attempts to tickle the funny bone, goes on to every extent to make the viewers laugh, but hardly their buffoonery and one-liners make your fun for the day.  Plenty of similar attempts from Salimkumar and Raju also fall flat, with the movie ending up as one with a pile  of unsuccessful gags and unbearable drolleries. Mammootty, as usual, looks charming in a poorly drafted character with plenty of artificial banter while Lal continues with his old antics. Padmapriya, Lalu Alex and Kaniha play to the demands of their role.

The only high point of the movie is the technical side, camera by Venu and BG scores by Deepak Dev. The climax fight scenes in the boxing ring are also wisely captured.

All in all, this `Cobra' may hardly qualify for a one-time watch. But if you are happy with brainless, logic less entertainers, this may be a time-pass material.
