Common for women to sacrifice love for family: SC

The Supreme Court said that it was common for women in India to sacrifice their relationship and accept the family`s choice, making it apparent that this was more of a phenomenon than a few lone cases.

The Court made this observation while delivering the judgment for a man accused of killing a woman in 1995; according to the accused, the woman and he had decided to die together, as the woman`s parents had forced to wed someone else. Testifying in the court, the woman`s father said that his family refused to accept their love due to caste differences. No evidence surfaced as to whether the man had gone to the extent of killing the woman he could not have.
