Cultural policy, Cabinet decision

The Karnataka state cabinet on Monday announced the cultural policy that touched on appointment of cultural faculty for high schools besides a tribal University, Soofi and Tatwapada (philosophical) research center.

The State law minister TB Jayachandra announcing the Cultural Policy` implementation said the government is setting aside Rs.59.68 crores as grant.

A committee to this effect was set up in the leadership of literary personality Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa in 2013. The report to the government was submitted in 2014. To discuss on the Prof Baraguru report the rural development minister HK Patil was entrusted responsibility. It has made some changes and brought it before the state cabinet recently.

The setting up of art galleries in each district, measures to curb the tendency of banning books for trivial reasons, paying honorarium to help artistes in distress and inclusion of Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, liberalization of academies, presentation of awards in the same year, setting up of Kalagramas, support to Kannada Adhyayana Kendras, the committee had also asked the government not to ban a literary work unilaterally and suggested the formation of search committees to select chairpersons to various academies and authorities.
