As predicted last week, 'Desi Boyz' took an opening which was better than 'Thank You'/'Patiala House' and lesser than 'Tees Maar Khan'. Now this was always the kind of graph that was expected for the Akshay Kumar starrer though frankly speaking, one does miss the 30 crore milestone here. If at all one had any doubts around this number before the release of the film, they were all solved once first day audience started talking about it. Enjoying the kind of word of mouth that ranged between decent to very good, it was widely believed that 30 crore was a given.

However the milestone was missed by just a whisker and the opening weekend collections read a respectable, though not excellent, 28 crores. The film did lose out on at least 3-5 crores due to the 'A' certificate that it carried and hence footfalls were marginalised to some extent at the least.

Still, all said and done, the film has taken better opening than the likes of 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', 'Murder 2' and 'Delhi Belly', three of the biggest hits of the year that also carried a good word of mouth. Since 'Desi Boys' is also supported by positive vibes around it, especially after it's release, the trade is hopeful that it would manage to register good numbers in the final run. As of now the film is an average runner at the least due to costs involved and the recoveries already made. However with 'The Dirty Picture' breathing down it's neck, it would be interesting to see how far these 'desi boyz' eventually go.

As for 'Dam 999', it met with a disastrous fate at the box office. The film was released in select cinemas, wasn't even reviewed by most critics and opened to almost empty houses.
