New Year Weekend Chennai Box Office Top 10 - Analysis

The last weeken of 2016 had at least four direct Tamil releases and and Two Hollywood releases. Here is the report of performances of the film in Chennai Box Office between December 30 2016 to January 1 2017.
Ameer Khan's 'Dangal' which had collected above Rs.1 crore in its first weekend continued the same form in the second with one crore (Rs.1,06,23, 410) collection and a phenomenal 90% occupancy. this becomes the first Hindi movie in Chennai to have collected above one crore in two consecutive weekends.
Among last week releases. 21 year old debutant director Karthik Naren's murder mystery thriller 'Dhurvangal Pathinaaru' has taken a good opening thanks to the phenomenal positive reviews from the Press show. For a film with predominantly newcomers except the lead actor Rahman, getting 85% theater occupancy in the first weekend is a noteworthy achievement. With this the film has collected above eight lakhs. It is to be noted that the film released on Thursday (December 29) and the total collection made by the film in four days has crossed Rs.11 lakhs.
The other two prominent Tamil releases of the weekend 'Achamindri' and 'Mo' have achieved an Average Opening with 75% occupancy each.
The second week collections of Vishal's 'Kaththi Sandai' that released last week dipped to Above Average with 70% occupancy.
Director Venkat Prabhu's 'Chennai 600028 II' which has been declared as a Blockbuster continued its magical run with 85 shows in eight screens across Chennai and
