Dishkiyaoon Review

Gangster underworld is a huge fascination all over the globe, Scorsese, Coppola, Brian De Palma have inspired Feroz Khan, Mukul Anand, Mahesh Bhatt, RGV, Manjrekar, Anurag Kashyap, even Karan Johar all have given some identity, character to their on screen gangster fascination.

Alas Sanamjit Singh Talwar's `Dishkiyaoon' the `comeback' of Harman Baweja which draws inspiration from those `Goodfellas' of gangster cinema lacks excitement, character, credibility to engage either action/gangster film buffs or the fans of Sunny Deol or Baweja.

Viki (Harman Baweja) is in jail narrating his story to Lakwa (Sunny Deol) on how from a loser bullied school boy he comes apple of the eye for Tony (Prashant Narayan) and how he and his mentor where gamed. The rest of the story revolves around Viki becoming the Big Boss of the underworld.

The reason for Viki to be charmed by the underworld is driven more by his choice and less by his difference with his father who believes in Gandhisim and to top it all Viki has no struggle as far as the basic necessities of life are concerned and he has nothing against the system but still he desires to be a gangster for professional reasons.

So the protagonist Viki fails to generate any connect with the audience though the climax has a twist but it's too late till then the audience is forced to some sporadic burst of stylish showiness which hardly work as the substance is missing.

Harman Baweja is okay but still that uncanny resemblance to Hrithik does pops up during the final reels.

Sunny Deol is disappointing, Ayesha Khanna is pretty. Prashant Narayan comes with flying colours he is too good. Anand Tiwari and Sumit Nijhawan chip in with great support. Aditya Pancholi is wasted.

Music is forgettable. Technicalities are fine though the action scenes have nothing to boost about so is this very average gangster flick that misses the trick and fails to click
