Expectations

Eddie Murphy-Nick Nolte starrer Hollywood film '48 Hrs' inspired 'Andar Bahar', which also marked the two hero chemistry between Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. Together they did many films and the audience loved their bonding which superseded the bond of Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. The 90's era witnessed Akshay Kumar teaming up with Saif Ali Khan and Sunil Shetty and now it's John Abhraham and Varun Dhawan's turn with their latest film 'Dishoom'. Right from the first trailer the movie seems like total entertainer and raises the expectation level to watch a good fun filled film.

Story

'Dishoom' is a story of one of India's finest cricket player Viraj Sharma (Saqib Saleem), who gets kidnapped few days prior to the final match between India and Pakistan in the heart of Middle East. Indian embassy assigns one of their best officer Kabir Shergill (John Abhraham), to find Viraj with the help of a local cop Junaid Ansari (Varun Dhawan). Together, they start following every lead and in between, are helped by Ishika (Jacqueline Fernandez). Trio sets out on a roller coaster ride with ups and downs at every turn in order to find Viraj Sharma.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The combination of series and fun cops have managed to work in these films and so it does in case of 'Dishoom'. Every bonding scene involving John and Varun are one of the most entertaining scenes from the film. These guys carry the whole movie on their broad shoulders despite of having a weak screenplay, especially in the second half of the film.

There are many entertaining scenes involving John and Varun which keeps you highly entertained throughout the film. Dialogues and one liners are enjoyable. Cinematography is of top notch and goes well in the favour of the film.

Pritam's music is foot tapping right from the title song to 'Sau Tarah Ke' and 'Jaaneman Aah' in the finale. The latter one reminds you of the Govinda type of 90's songs. Background music is energetic.

Director Rohit Dhawan comes back after the success of his debut film 'Desi Boys' and gives us yet another fun filled entertainer. Kudos to him for keeping the grandeur level of the top notch and making the movie look grand and super stylish.

John Abraham as the serious cop is superb and makes the tough act look quite easy. Varun Dhawan is outstanding with his live-wire type of fun filled performance. It's nice to see Akshaye Khanna back on the silver screen. He pulls his act by adding his negative charms and does full justice to his role. Jacqueline Fernandez looks cute but has very less to offer. Saqib Salim and Rahul Dev lend good support.

Cameos by Akshay Kumar, Nargis Fakri and Pariniti Chopra are enjoyable.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

As the chemistry between John and Varun dries out, you are exposed to the weak and dragging screenplay which works on a snail pace. The story lacks thrilling moments along with the much required intensity. The second half is totally stretched especially the whole Rahul Dev part leading to silly finale. If only the screenplay would had been crispier and the finale bit intense the impact would have been super strong. The movie could have been double entertaining.

Director Rohit Dhawan rides high with the entertainment quotient and defies logics in quite a smart way but, fails to rope in some intensity, rather, the much required soul in the film. He keeps it light and dragging at times due to which the fun elements gets diluted at regular intervals. Jacqueline Fernandez suffer the most due to half-baked script and a weak role.

Final 'Glitz'

'Dishoom' is a popcorn entertainer which is good time pass watch. One can enjoy it till it last. The movie could have been a huge entertainer if only there was a decent script and some logical moments attached to it.
