Don - The Chase Begins Again

Jaan-e-mann

Weakness

Film’s strength is its weakness. Big B’s ‘Don’ has been one of the most watched flick on satellite channels and home video and comparisons would be inevitable. Also, one hopes that Farhan doesn’t go overboard with the gadgetry stuff with the film loosing its soul. There are some who have absolutely hated the two remix tracks from the original ‘Don’.

What if the film turns out to be one of those routine ‘pyaar mohabbat’ drama with just a twist here or there? Uncertainty factor around first time director Shirish results in one being slightly apprehensive about the film and makes one wait to hear more through word of mouth.

Publicity

Simply tremendous in the last couple of months. The day theatrical trailer was out; there has been massive craze about the film. Song and talkie promos have been mixed well and the makers have left no stone unturned to make the world aware about the film’s release.

There was quite a bit of surprise when even after the beginning of promos of ‘Don’, there was no sign of ‘Jaan-e-Mann’. Eventually when it began, the songs didn’t catch up in the very first week and took some time to show a gradual progress. Meanwhile in last 2 weeks, the film has managed to catch up with ‘Don’, courtesy an aggressive and great mix of different songs and scene promos that has resulted in one eagerly looking forward to checking it out.

Buzz

Buzz about the film is strongest after KANK and that makes it two in a row for SRK. The world is waiting to see how ‘Don’ performs – and they are ready with bouquets and brickbats

Strong again, though as mentioned above it has taken time to be pick up. Normally for films belonging to such genre, expectations are fairly reasonable without going overboard and hence decent buzz can take the movie through.

Opening

With dozen odd shows running in each of the major multiplexes across country, the film is all set to embark on a record start. It may not really break the record created by KANK a few weeks back but should still net in the excess of 25 crores.

‘Jaan-e-mann’ also looks set to open very well but may just end up falling a little short of ‘Don’, at least on the opening day. From Saturday onwards, it would be the eventual word of mouth that should decide the course of action for both the films, though our film crazy country looks all set to check out both the films and then decide about the better of the two.

Verdict

At least a hit in the making, the economics of film making has taken such a trend today that it is impossible for a biggie to flop, at least technically. A tremendous opening week followed by dozens of rights for the film on auction means that the producer never looses money.
