If the audiences have the patience to wait till interval then they can lap up a good mix of suspense, action, thrill and usual song and dance in the second half of this `Dubai Babu'. How come a senior director Naganna, talented Upendra and regular producer Shailendra Babu go wrong? The twists and turns needed for the first half they have forgotten it seems. Till interval it is utter chaos! A remake of Telugu super hit film `Dubai Seenu' is luxuriously made but holding the interest of the audience is done only in the second half. There is great paucity of pleasant approach. When three bigwigs join together means the expectations are very high. That is not sustained here in this film.
Five pals collect money from various sources to reach Mumbai to fly to Dubai to get jobs. They are duped in big Mumbai city and they lose everything. They come to the streets and manage to eke out living by running a Paani Poori stall. It is at this stage Babu the protagonist (Upendra) falls in love with beautiful Vasundhara (Nikitha) and he show off that he is a software engineer to please her. On return to Bangalore Babu trace Vasundhara moving with inspector Kalayya (Ramesh Pandit). Kalayya a corrupt inspector is interested in marrying Vasundhara who is a radio jockey. This is the irking point for Babu. One of the friends of Vasundhara finds Babu in the police encounter of Jinnah Bhai who comes to city to finish off two goons from Mumbai. The suspicion mounts and undisclosed secrets open up that create lot of curiosity for the audience. The close friend of Babu - Sathya and his wife killed by Jinnah and gang is witnessed by Babu and at the time of death Sathya disclose that his sister is Vasundhara. How Babu takes revenge on Jinnah is the mind blowing part of this film `Dubai Babu'. No logic only tragic end.
This is a fashion parade for Upendra. The speedy dialogues are not punching. There is nothing much to boast for Upendra. Nikitha is like Dubai Dates! She is so sweet throughout in this film. Aryan Vaidya dubbing in the Kannada languages deserves applaud for his screen presence. The effort of veterans Dwarakish, Sunder Raj, Satyajith, MN Lakshmi Devi and Ramesh Pandit are wasted.
V Sridhar with a huge hit of `Mussanje Mathu' fails to delivery melody in this film `Dubai Babu'. Bachiko Bachiko. is racy number, Bendhakaluru Gowda, Pi Pi Pee Dum Dum..are peppy ones.
The photography is colorful agreed but when it is presented on the screen in several places it disturbs the eyes. The editing and special effects is perturbing.
Film only for Uppi fans!
