Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha Review

Expectations

Producer turned director Sunil Darshan was one of the key reasons for the initial gain in the career of Akshay Kumar. He also launched Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra. Not to forget, his other films with Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Deol and others. The veteran director returns back with a love story featuring his son and his favorite actor Upen Patel.

The major USP of this movie is its music by Nadeen Saifi of Nadeem Shravan. The expectation level is super low due to its weak promotion and non-famous actors.

Story

'Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha' is a story of a rich girl Natasha (Natasha Fernandez), who is engaged to her childhood friend Sunny (Upen Patel). Together, they visit their ancestral property in the heart of the United Kingdom. In between Natasha is rescued from drowning by a mysterious man Devdhar (Shiv Darshan).

After a while, Natasha falls in love with Devdhar and want to get married to him.  Natasha's father (Rumi Khan) informs her that Devdhar is a ghost who was madly in love with her grandmother. Natasha fails to believe this story and discovers many hidden stories related to her life.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The cinematography is very good and all the locations are superb. The music by Nadeem Saifi is good and some of the songs are highly melodious. 'Nain', 'Hum Bechain', 'Hanste Hanste' are the best of the lot. Rest songs are decent. Background music is average.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The story keeps wandering every minute and fails to justify its happenings. Situations are placed randomly in the film. There are back to back terrible scenes which keeps happening at frequent intervals. The climax is utter trash with some idiotic supernatural justification, which is totally unimaginable.

The dialogues are total trashy, bookish and lacks emotions. Editing is bad and abrupt at times.

Director Sunil Darshan returns back with a cluttered love story, which rides high only due to its music and initial forced sensuous moments. One cannot feel the pain, love and drama happening in the film. The super faulty screenplay is damaged further more due to stale direction.

Shiv Darshan fails to act. His expressions are wooden and lacks the hero mannerisms. Natasha Fernandez looks good but acts terrible. Upen Patel still cannot act.

Final 'Glitz'

'Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha' is like a beast without its beauty. It's a modern day trashy tribute to the 90's era and the cinema of Kanti Shah.
