Vidyasagar is called as the 'man of melody and masses' in Kollywood. This National-award winning music-composer's penchant for songs that are lilting as well as popular with the lay audience is widely known.

In Emttan Mahan, the music director has come up with six songs which are a cocktail of method and mood.

The highlight of the album is a song sans any music instruments accompanying it. Unlike other slow numbers, Vidyasagar's songs in Emttan Mahan have a mesmerizing effect on the listeners. They are well supported by good lyrics by the likes of Yuga Bharathy, Pa Vijay, Na Muthukumar, Kabilan and Bhaskar Shankthi.

Koli Kundu (Karthik, Kalyani)

Unlike others, Vidyasagar begins his album on a soft note. Mild music with free-flowing lyrics is the features of the song. The song gives one the feel of standing on the shores waiting for the waves to touch our feet and go. The usually vibrant Karthik has cut down his energy level and adapted himself well to the mood the song. But his ability is unmistakable. So is Kalyani too. The duo's duet is delicious.

Purinchucha (George and Stephen Devassy)

A hip-hop song that is perfect for dance-floors. The racy beats with right punctuations are the highlight. The additional percussions used by Vidyasagar give the song a perfect fillip. Unlike other songs of this genre, the lyrics are not dominated by the music. Vidyasagar prove his mettle by adapting himself to new tunes and trends.

Manmeethuthan (Madhu Balakrishnan)

After Kana Kandeinadi in Parthiuban Kanavu, the Vidyasgar - Madhu Balakrishnan combination creates a lot of expectations among the music-lovers. Living up to the expectations is this number. It's a typical Vidyasgar song in gritty carnatic music traditions. If Vidyasagar has given the skeleton for the song, Madhu Balakrishnan has given it the flesh and blood with his delightful rendering.

Unnodu Than (Thippu and Subhiksha)

A romantic melody. Sans any instruments, Vidyasagar manages to spread his magical effect on the music lovers by just tuning the song after a soulful raaga. A different attempt that may go well with the masses. Thippu's open vocals suit the song well.

Varraru Varraru (Mohan, Muraliand Chandiran)

Any music album these days is incomplete without a racy and a high-pitched 'gaana' number. It's perhaps an attempt to appease frontbenchers.  Vidyasagar is no exception to it. He has come up with a racy and peppy song but has shrewdly used 'nattupurapattu' and 'kavadi sindu'. With brisk instruments and peppy vocals, the song looks a winner.

Kallori Generation (Vijay Yesudass, Timmi)

As the title suggests, it is a song set in college campus. It has to be obviously a peppy and foot-tapping number. Timmi as one of the singers is understandable. But what about Vijay Yesudass? Is he not a singer in the tradition of his dad? Well, he is the real surprise packet of this song. He sings with verve and Timmi matches him.  With rap interludes and energetic use of drums and guitar, Vidyasagar has taken the Yuvan way.
