Is A True Joy Ride
Thursday, May 31, 2012 • Hindi Comments

Vidhu Vinod Chopra films have always had memorable music to boast of. Their last offering '3 idiots' had definitely been top of the charts.  All is Well is still memorable in the hearts of millions. Their forthcoming offering 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari' is a comedy and Pritam has certainly taken a lot of pains to compose light hearted situational fun filled numbers.

1. Life Yeh Mausambi Si - Listen here

Singer: K Mohan (Agnee)

Lyrics: Satyanshu & Devanshu Singh

The album opens, with "Life Yeh Mausambi Si". Sung by K Mohan the lead vocalist of the famous Indian rock band Agnee the song is accompanied by excellent blend of the whistles, the piano, saxophone, chorals and bead sound. However K. Mohan's husky voice rises above all along with Satyanshu and Devanshu Singh simple lyrics. The song gives you the feel of the sixties style of lovely rock and roll and predominantly jazz kind of music.

2. Maara Re Sixer - Listen here

Singers: Sonu Nigam, Rana Majumdar, Aishwarya Nigam, Ashish

Lyrics: Swananda Kirkire

The song sung by Sonu Nigam, Rana Majumdar, Aishwarya Nigam, Ashish is very catchy and has a lot of fast beats. Lyrics by Swananda Kirkire are very simple and very haunting. It has very Maharashtrian roots and music director Pritam has been inspired by lot of Hindustani instruments. The entirely situational number is quite fast paced and the humorous lyrics by the Swanand Kirkere are a way to go. Swanand has made very wise choice of cricketing lingo like hook, bouncer, sixer, fielders, umpires etc. The dhols and drums in the background give it a very sporty feel. This song can be the next cricket anthem of India soon.

3. Rusy's Theme - Listen here

Instrumental

"Rusy's Theme" is a soft musical arrangement where a lot of violin, bead sounds, bandoneon, piano have been cleverly entwined to form the perfect combination. The orchestration is very Victorian and the ambience reminds you of candle lights and ball room dances.

4. Mla Jau De - Listen here

Singer: Urmila Dhangar

Lyrics: Guru Thakur

"Maala Jau De" is an item number added to this Vidhu Vinod Chopra film. The song is a lavani known as a popular folk number of Maharashtra. The feisty song is interspersed with lot of drums and dhols with chorus added to it. Made especially to lure the masses it is particularly performed to the beats of Dholak. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm and erotic sentiment but here lyricist Guru Thakur has given it a very simple form to suit the spirit of the film. The song though an item number in the film with the presence of Vidya Balan gives it a very thrilling experience. Vidya Balan is definitely going to set the screen on fire with her jhatkas. Another definite hit added to Pritam's album of choicest songs.

5. Aey Mere Mann - Listen here

Singer: Shyamantan Das

Lyrics: Swananda Kirkire

Little wonder Shyamantan Das, another find of the reality shows sings the song "Ae Mere Mann" with a lot of sincerity and innocence. Lovely soothing piano notes intermittently used add to the lilting melody. The song once again has the 60's feel and reminds one of the school choir bands and is easy to hum. Above all Swanand Kirkire's simple and inspirational lyrics take the song to another level.  Superb rendition by Shyamantan Das this song is going to a hit among school going children.

6. Good Night - Listen here

Singer: Priyani Vani Pandit

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

The gentle tinkle of the Jaltarang and its unique sound sounds heralds the song Goodnight. Sung by Priyani Vani Pandit this lullaby is highlighted by simple lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Priyani Vani's, husky soft whispering singing and the Jaltarang in the background is amazing and transfers you into a literal dream world.  Definitely, a unique masterpiece by Pritam.

7. Ferrari Ki Sawaari - Listen here

Singers: Shaan, Boman Irani, Aayush Phulkan

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

The album ends with a nice fun filled title song, "Ferrari Ki Sawaari". It literally takes you for a joy ride in a Ferrari. The song has a very retro feel and Shaan has rendered this number in a very Kishore Kumar style. Giving him able support are Boman Irani and Aayush Phukan, making it all the more jovial. What is worth mentioning is Amitabh Bhattacharya imaginative creative writing skills which takes the song to another level.

Overall: 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari' is certainly a joy ride as the title suggests. Another hit by Pritam who has definitely scored this one with a lot of patience and time keeping in mind the mood of the film. The film is all set to hit the screens on June 15. So set the ignition and let the Ferrari swing in action.
