Amid rising tensions with China and Pakistan, the Indian Army has been delegated special financial powers that will be vital if the country has to wage quick and short wars. The powers help the Army deal with ammunition and spares deficiencies, according sources who spoke to the Indian Express.

This step enables the army to quickly deal with critical deficiencies in 46 types of ammunition and 10 types of spares, meaning a revenue expenditure of Rs. 40,000 crore in terms of contracts. It is highly unlikely that the fund will be available for this year.

22 types of armaments and six types of mines might soon be covered in the special financial powers. The government has ordered that the army keep stocks for an intense war that might last 40 days, but the current stocks might not even last 10 days, according to officials.
