Actor Dhanush`s long awaited film Thodari` released yesterday (September 22). The film gained huge importance as this is the first time a National award winning actor Dhanush had teamed up with Prabhu Solomon who has delived critically acclaimed and super hit flicks like Myna`and 'Kumki`. In all the films of Prabhu Solomon nature plays an important role and his films will have more for the audience to enjoy in terms of scenic localities. Thodari` is no exception to this expectation.

Apart from this Thodari` has a few more highlights that would make the film a delightful watch for the audience.

The Train Genre

As claimed by the makers this is definitely the First Train Film of Tamil cinema. The film happens in a train journey between New Delhi to Chennai. The scenes that are out of the train are also strongly connected with the train and its journey.

In a film about a train journey that too from the north to south of the nation, we will get to see lots of interesting characters with different linguistic, regional, cultural and social backgrounds. Thodari` has this advantage of diversified characters and that is one of the interesting elements of the film.

Also the film deals with a lot about the functioning and mechanism of train driving, train management and control systems etc which are new to Tamil films and a lot of home work seems to have gone into these details.

In short Thodari` has opened up a new genre in Tamil films.

The Lead pair

If Dhanush acts in a film. It is needless to mention that he is one of the biggest pluses. In this film he plays a orphaned pantry worker whose only aim is to get the girl of his life. He finds one and his love for that girl makes him a larger than life hero who saves the life of 700 and odd passengers travelling in a train. Dhanush has as usual given his best to the character and it is a treat to watch him make fun, romance, emote and burst out in anger.

Keerthy Suresh`s girl next door image gets strengthened with her looks and performance in this film. She has lived the character of a low class girl having high aspirations and her expressions of love, despair and fear are spot on.

The duo share a good chemistry as both of them are relatable to the common man.

Music and Cinematography

Prabhu Solomon`s combination with music director D.Imman has been a magical one. In this film, the songs unlike the previous films of the duo failed to give any pre-release push for the film. But in the the flim they are placed well and are pleasing to hear and visually pleasing to watch. Re-recording also accelerates the tense and drama in the second half and music indeed leverages the final impact.

Prabhu Solomon`s films are always known for visual brilliance and his films have always transformed the beauty of the mother nature to the silver screen. This film which predominantly happens within the train also offers moments that captures the nature at its visual best. The shots showing the train from top angle and long shots have been utilized well for this purpose.

Dialogues

Thodari` will be one of the films remembered for Prabhu Solomon`s dialogue writing skills. The first half as a lot of situational comedy that one would usually expect from his films. Second half has emotional ones and also some powerful lines about humanity and human values.

The dialogues in the sequences that troll the scoop thirsty media get a lot of claps and whistles from the audience. A much needed one indeed.

Supporting cast

Thodari` boasts off a huge supporting cast that includes many veterans and talented performers who add humongous value for the film.

Radharavi as the central minister who is ill-treated by his own party. R.V.Udhayakumar as the sincere and committed Loco Pilot who is on the last day of his duty, Venkatesh as the Railway Manager and Chinni Jayant as his cool headed and smart associate. Ganesh Venkatraman as the no-nonsense police officer, Badava Gopi as the News Channel debate anchor who always keeps an eye on TRP and many others make the second half lively and entertaining.

The script depends heavily on comedy in the first half and this is taken care of by Thambi Ramaiah who comes as the Pantry chief and his battalion of workers that include a wannabe poet Karunakaran, Darbuka Siva, Kumki` Ashwin and Super Good Subramani. This team along with Dhanush provide some laugh worthy moments that make the first half entertaining despite its overstretched length.
