Freaky Ali Hindi Movie Review

Expectations

Nawazuddin Siddiqui started his career by doing small scenes in films like ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Shool’ and ‘Munnabhai MBBS’. After a lot of struggle and hard work he has reached to the top and is considered among one of the finest actors from our country. He got his mass popularity by doing films like ‘Kick’ and ‘BajrangiBhaijaan’. Nawazuddin’s association with Salman Khan not only got him his deserved popularity, but also fetched him a lead role in an entertaining film ‘Freaky Ali’. The trailer was launched by all the three Khan brothers and had a quirky humour attached to it. The expectations were high due to the hilarious trailer and sets a new career path for Nawzuddin.

Story

‘Freaky Ali’ is a story of Ali (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who keeps doing odd jobs for a better living. In order to make some quick money he starts helping Maqsood (Arbaaz Khan) to collect money for Danger Bhai (NikitinDheer). Maqsood and Ali land up at the golf course to collect money from a rich businessman, at that time Ali is instigated to play golf. Ali uses his natural instincts and surprises everyone with his swings. KishanLal (Asif Basra) is Ali’s neighbor and an experienced caddy, as per him Ali should utilize his natural talent. KishanLal starts training Ali and gears him up for a qualification round. The path for Ali is not as easy as it seems.

The ‘Glitz’ Factor

The story is simple and has mild similarities with Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore’. The first half starts with some entertaining scenes featuring Nawazuddin and NikitinDheer. The humour quotient is good when it’s related to Nawazuddin and the golf game but at times it reminds you of the standup comedy shows from the televisions. The cinematography is decent. Dialogues are enjoyable. It’s great to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui in such a different type of lead role. He does full justice to his character. His comic timing and one liners go well with the flow of the film.NikitinDheer and PareshGanatra are hilarious in parts.Asif Basra lends good support. Cameo by Jackie Shroff was fine.

The ‘Non-Glitz’ Factor

The second half has mild shades of humor, but goes on a dragging and predictable mode. There is nothing concrete happening in the second half of the film and has some unwanted tracks. These tracks are half baked and failed to go with the flow of the film. The whole Nawazuddin and Amy track is abrupt and unconvincing.Music by SajidWajid is average. ‘Din Mein Karengey’ will last for a short while. ‘ParindaHaiParinda’ is good, but nothing extraordinary.Director Sohail Khan tries hard to make a decent comical drama and partially succeeds in some scenes. There were few scenes and tracks (especially related to Nikitin) which could have done wonders. The director seems bit under confident due to which he decides to play safe in the second half by just dragging the novelty factor to its fullest.. Arbaaz Khan and Amy Jackson were sleep walking in the film. Their tracks are half-baked and unwanted at times. Jas Arora keeps continuing his Gulshan Grover clone type of act.

Final ‘Glitz’

Freaky Ali is a half baked film, due to weak second half and stretched plot. It had all the potential to become a feel good entertainer, but fails to do so half way. More suitable for home viewing.
