Come what may, Fridays can’t be dry days for film fans. And this week is a classic example to this. Despite World Cup cricket final match at one end and Assembly elections at the other end, handful of movies are seeing the light of the day today, with immense belief on film buffs.

Though there are no big movies in the race, those in the field exude some promise. If the output is satisfying, then there is no doubt that tough competition would be in store for some much-awaited films, which are lined up for release in the coming weeks.

‘Om Sakthi’, NTR Junior, the grandson of the grand demigod of Andhra, is set to woo the Tamil masses with ‘Om Sakthi’, the dubbed version of Tollywood’s ‘Shakthi’.

Ileana as heroine may be an added advantage to this film in Tamil Nadu. ‘Ilaya Thilakam’ Prabhu is also there in a crucial role.

Producer Ashwini Dutt and director Meher Ramesh are happy about the output. “The film has come good and it would work well with the masses,” the duo says with all hope.

‘Nanjupuram’ features popular television artiste Raghav in the lead role. Monicka plays the heroine. Says director Charles, “Nanjupuram is no superstitious movie. We have tried to break all the myths about snakes that have been passed on for several generations.”

Besides donning the lead role, Raghav has scored music for the movie. He says, “I started my career as a musician in director Vasanth's Yei Nee Romba Azhaga Irukka. I am extremely thrilled to compose tunes for Nanjupuram. A racy number by Pushpavanam Kuppusamy is the highlight of the album.”

The film distributed by Sri Thenandal Films, has dialogues by Magudeswaran and cinematography by Anthony.

‘Appavi’, Joining hands with many newcomers, veteran Kollywood filmmaker K Bhagyaraj will play a main role in ‘Appavi’, directed by R Raghuraj. The film, which was shot in Chennai, Hyderabad and Ernakulam, has been produced by ECR V L Dhandapani on Chartered Arts Banner.

With Gowtham and Suhani, both freshers, in the lead roles, ‘Appavi’ has Joshua Sridhar of ‘Kadhal’ fame is scoring the music, while Soori, Mannobala and Kaniha are some of the names in the supporting characters list.

On the film, Raghuraj says, “it is about an innocent youth who is spoiled by anti-social elements in the society. How he eventually takes revenge on them is the story”. Vairamuthu and Na Muthukumar have penned the lyrics.

‘Thenkasi Pakkathula’, Produced by Pradeep for Classic Combines, ‘Thenkasi Pakkathula’ has been directed by A Antony with news faces playing the lead roles. “It is a rural story which would throw light on human relationships,” sources say.
