Every Friday teaches a lesson or two to Kollywood. Be it on the need of making good films or having a strategy for the release Tamil film industry must embark on a learning journey soon. In spite of blame games all through the year so far the results are not forth coming.

This Friday again is a no shaker with just one big film releasing along with a couple of vague ones. And to ring the bell there are a few dubbed ones also. One dubbed release is crazy, bizarre and you can call what ever you want.

Now move on to the story. ‘Thillalangadi’ produced by Jayam Company is releasing this Friday with out any competition of what so ever kind. The movie is a remake of Telugu hit ‘Kick’ directed by the ‘Jayam’ Raja. ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Tamannah are the romantic pair while Shaam plays the same important role he played in the Telugu original. The release date of ‘Thillalangadi’ was announced with a very short notice because Sun Pictures thought it will be able to manage. It has a rich casting with popular names line Prabhu, Suhasini, Vadivelu and Santhanam on roll.

‘Thillalangadi’ as the name suggests is an action comedy in which ‘Jayam’ Ravi is a thief who runs to Malaysia and Shaam the police officer follows the thief meets Tamannah and it goes like that. There is romance, action and comedy in this movie. One thing hyped for the movie is a song sequence in a 360 Degrees set shot in a single take with ‘Jayam’ Ravi coming in 15 costumes and Tamannah in five. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

G-Ants productions ‘Vizhiyil Vizhunthaval’ is a film with all new comers at the helm. The story line is said to be how the character, discipline and attitude of hero is changed after two girls enter his life. New faces Ajaz, Ahilpa and Anaka are being introduced in lead characters a romantic comedy ‘Vizhiyil Vizhunthaval’ is directed by Ajaz. Music director is Pollack. This film is a made and promoted like a normal medium budget Tamil film but however the visibility is still low.

‘Singamuham’ is one small film announced for Friday but its latest advertisements didn’t carry a theatre name but clearly says ‘From this Friday’. What do they imply? We don’t know. Aaravathu Vanam that was to be released today is again postponed. It will release next Friday July 30.

As usual there are a couple of dubbed movies for this Friday. The big one is the action thriller ‘Salt’ starring Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who is accused of being a KGB sleeper agent plotting to assassinate the President of the United States by a defector. She goes on the run to try to clear her name. The role is first written for Tom Cruise. But after he was unable to commit, it was ultimately rewritten for Jolie.

There is one bizarre foreign language film dubbed in Tamil this week. Called ‘Nurse’ in Tamil the film stars the first Bond girl Ursula Andress who was the sex symbol in the 70s. The original film is an Italian film named L' Infermiera released in Italy in 1975, in France in 1977 and in USA in 1979.

As a super wealthy aging Casanova widower begins suffering from near fatal heart trouble, his greedy heirs hire an incredibly sexy and sensuous nurse Ursula Andress to get his pulse racing and speed up his death. But the beauty begins to fall in love with the old man. The Sensuous Nurse is considered by many to be one of the best Italian erotic comedies of its era.

But what is it doing in Tamil Nadu after 30 years? The publicity materials have misleading visuals and wrong people on the cards. Is it not the filmy people betraying their own well wishers?

Another film to mention this Friday is the Hindi film ‘Khatta Meetha’ which launches own Trisha in Bollywood. It is directed by Priyadarshan and stars Akshay Kumar and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. ‘Khatta Meetha’ is a satirical comedy remade out of the 1989 Malayalam film, ‘Vellanakalude Nadu’, starring Mohanlal, Shobana. Trisha is in a deglamourised role of a municipal commissioner. But for the songs Trisha has shed all her inhibitions that she was refusing for Kollywood.

On the go, ‘Angadi Theru’ and ‘Paiyaa’ are still holding on even after hundred days even it is so with noon shows. Kalavani, Raavanan and Madrasapattinam are maintaining their top positions at the beginning of a next week.
