This week are there are four films in the fray and they are 'Sathurangam', 'Vellore Mavattam', 'Ra Ra' and 'Varnam'. With each one offering a different treat, ranging from genre to actors to budget, let us have a look at all of them...

Sathurangam

After a long wait for over five years, director Karu Palaniappan's 'Sathurangam' with Srikanth playing the lead role saw light of the day this week. Srikanth has played the role of a journalist in this film, whose name is Tirupathisamy. Karu Palaniappan named the character so since it is the name of his late friend, who made 'Narasimmha'. Please note that both Tirupathisamy and Karu Palaniappan started their careers together as journalists, with a popular media house in Chennai. Later they ventured into cinema and became directors. In a mishap, Tirupathisamy passed away before the release of Narasimmha.

Sadhurangam, according to Srikanth, is a racy subject with so many twists and turns. "Though years had passed, the film is still fresh in content," he says.

Vellore Mavattam

After playing a baddie in 'Vandhaan Vendraan', Nandha is seen as a tough cop in 'Vellore Mavattam'. Says the actor, "Simply put, it is a story that focuses on the fight between a sincere officer and a corrupt political system. It is one of the important movies in my career."

Directed by RNR Manohar of 'Masilamani' fame and produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram of AGS Entertainment, the movie has Poorna playing his ladylove. Music is by Sundar C Babu.

Varnam

Monica is finally getting what she was looking for, one has to say. The actress is brimming with hope as 'Varnam', in which she had played a crucial role has hit the screens. "After Azhagi, Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi and Muthukku Muthaga, Varnam is a film that will fetch me name. I’ve got a lot of scope to perform in this film," she says.

Monika plays a mathematics teacher in the film. "I followed the director's (Raju) instructions and emoted as he wanted me too," she signs off.

Ra Ra

After a break, Udhaya is back with a film titled 'Ra Ra'. Speaking about the film, Udhaya says, "It is a hilarious entertainer. There is a strong message in it." Apart from Udhaya and Swetha Basu, Ponvannan, Meera Krishnan, Aditya and Sathyan are also starring in this film.

Sandalya who has written the story, screenplay and dialogues has also directed the film. He had earlier worked as an assistant to directors Prabhu Solomon and Agathiyan. The film is about the interesting incidents that take place between the two families living in Royapuram and Royapettah, two popular areas in Chennai.
