Young actor Gautham Karthik had his first hit film this year with 'Rangoon' and 'Ivan Thanthiran' which was released on Friday last (June 30) was expected to be the perfect follow up as the film directed and produced by R.Kannan was received with enormous critical acclaim. But fate had heartless plans and the film's run in theatres has been stalled after the three days of release due to the indefinite strike by theatre owners across Tamil Nadu to protest the levy of 30% entertainment tax on Tamil films apart from the GST.

The GST was enrolled on July 1st that is the day after 'Ivan Thanthiran' was released. There was confusion regarding the State Government's stand and final decision on the tax structure for films in the state. Naturally some people question the rationale behind releasing the film during such a unpredictable climate and why the film could not be postponed.

Gautham in his exclusive interview to IndiaGlitz has answered to this question "The film's release date is fixed by the producer and distributor based on a strategy . Supposing this strike did not happen, this film would have run very well. There was no competition, there was no big films release. No one knew that this strike will be announced and such a problem will arise. Generally releasing a film is like a gamble. No one can predict what issues will arise during the release of the film and after the release. If it is a success in this gamble it will be a huge success. If an external problem arises like this, we have to face the loss."
